12 Groups, 48 Teams

World Cup 2026 uses an expanded 12-group format: Groups A through L, each with four teams. The top two finishers from each group advance automatically to the Round of 32. The eight best third-place finishers also advance, making a total of 32 teams in the knockout rounds. Points are awarded in the standard 3-1-0 format, with goal difference, goals scored, head-to-head record, and FIFA fair play points used as tiebreakers.

• W / D / L — Wins, draws, losses
• GF / GA / GD — Goals for, goals against, goal difference
• Pts — Points (3 for a win, 1 for a draw, 0 for a loss)

Group of Death

The group with the highest combined Elo rating is tracked by the simulator as the tournament's Group of Death — where the highest-ranked teams are concentrated and at least one strong nation will exit in the group stage.
